Aromatherapy is a Powerful Holistic Therapy

Aromatherapy is a beautiful and powerful form of Alternative Medicine in which Essential Oils, often in combination with other Holistic Therapies such as massage, are used for the purpose of improving physical, psychological and emotional well-being.  The term “essential oils” refers to liquids extracted and distilled (most frequently by steam or water) from the leaves, stems, flowers, bark, roots, or other elements of a plant.

Each essential oil contains the true essence of the natural plant it was derived from.  Contrary to the name, these highly aromatic oils aren’t oily feeling at all.  Most are also colorless, but some (such as patchouli, orange and lemongrass) are amber or yellow in color.  When used by a properly trained practitioner, these concentrated, fragrant liquids have been known to provide amazing health benefits!

Common herbs used in aromoerapy are as follows (but not limited to):

Peppermint oil (Mentha x piperita)
Jasmine flower oil (Jasminum officinale)
Marjoram leaves
Betony leaves
Violet flower/leaf (Viola odorata)
Rose petals
Rosemary [Rosmarinus officinalis] hydrosol)
Cloves
Yerba Santa leaves (Eriodictyon californicum)
Anise seed oil (Pimpinella anisum)
Coriander Oil (Coriandrum sativum)
Ginger oil (Zingiber officinale)
Feverfew leaves (Tanacetum parthenium)

Aromatherapy has been reported to:

Improve relaxation and sleep
Relieve stress and anxiety
Reduce pain and inflammation
Increase cognitive function
Improve skin tone
Relieve headaches and menstrual cramps
Promote healing
And so much more…
Aromatherapy Classes

The best part about wanting to Learn Aromatherapy today, is that at schools like SWIHA, you can get educated on-campus or online!  SWIHA has a lot of unique courses to deepen your study of aromatherapy, so feel free to explore your options here, via our Certificate of Excellence in Aromatherapy.  Students enrolled in the Aromatherapy Certificate of Excellence program will study introductory and advanced Aromatherapy, including pharmacology, flower essences, five element acupressure, foot chakra reflexology, massage with oils, therapeutic touch, and more.  For a complete list of classes, click on “View Program Sheet” in the above link or download our latest class schedule book.

Certificates of Excellence are not necessarily designed to serve as stand-alone vocational training and may not prepare you for gainful employment if taken independently of a diploma or degree program.

I am the e-Marketing Specialist at Southwest Institute of Healing Arts (SWIHA), a nationally accredited (ACCET) private college and community-healing center for Holistic Healthcare careers and continuing education.  I submit articles on behalf of our educational blog and website.
